STAR Center is a 2024 Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education (CoE)

CoE Certificate

STAR Center is proud to announce that it has again been recognized by MARAD and has received a 2024 Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education (CoE) re-designation.

Located in Dania Beach, Florida, the American Maritime Officers Safety and Education Plan d.b.a. STAR Center provides professional training for mariners across the industry; from those employed on domestic waterways within the United States, to mariners who work aboard internationally-trading vessels. The training courses at the STAR Center assist current and prospective mariners with earning merchant mariner credentials and upgrading their skills and qualifications to advance within the afloat maritime industry. STAR offers more U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and other flag approved courses than any other simulation training center and is the only private maritime school in the US with a USCG approved TECH program.

STAR Center's USCG approved courses encompass both Deck and Engine pathways and promote steady growth, development and crossover of the afloat maritime workforce. Specifically, the STAR Center offers programs that allow transition from Ratings to Management, Management Upgrades, and specialized programs such as the Electronic Officer/Electro-Technical Officer Program. These courses ensure that the needs of the industry are met today and into the future, creating opportunities for advancement and attractive entry-level placement upon completion.

STAR Center's 360 degree bridge, engine room, liquid cargo, diesel electric, RADAR/ARPA and GMDSS simulators "offer the most technolically complex maritime simulation training available anywhere in the world." Capitalizing on their resources, researchers at STAR are using its visual and hydrodynamic ,odeling/simulation capacity to conduct demonstration and feasability analysis to support the renewable energy/offshore wind and ocean transportation sectors, port development, and other research and forensic maritime studies.

The STAR Center's focus on the continued development of US mariners is reflected not only in the quality of their training programs and colaboration with industry and educational partners, but also through their efforts to foster a diverse workplace/workforce. STAR Center coordinates with multiple local and regional maritime high schools to raise industry awareness, embraces policies and practices that encourage community and industry diversity, and supports initiatives such as military to mariner (M2M) that provide opportunities and credentialing for those considering a career in maritime.

STAR Center was one of MARAD's inaugural Centers of Excellence in 2021.

The Secretary of Transportation redesignates the STAR Center as a 2024 CoE in recognition of its high quality and lasting commitment toward maritime workforce development.
